 NW Washington Fairground

Our Mission:

Did you know there is a major need affecting families in our communities every day? It's a need so basic that many of us may take it for granted; food.

Humor for Hunger is a music and comedy outreach program designed to meet this need throughout our community by raising awareness, funds and non-perishable food donations in partnership with local food banks in Whatcom county. It is our goal to raise 100,000 lbs of food, but we need your help!

Saturday, July 19th

Gates open at 5:30pm

Silent Auction 5:30-7:00pm

So visit your local grocery, buy some non-perishable food items, buy a ticket, make a donation and meet us at the first-ever Humor for Hunger live event at The Northwest Washington Fairgrounds!

We're going to have a great time, with music, comedy, and food from Hempler's Bun Buster Hot Dogs, Burk Ridge Farms Burgers, Kettle Corn, and Woods coffee. Don't forget to tell your friends!

Special Guests & Silent Auction:

Humor for Hunger isn't all laughs. It's a great opportunity to hear from Tampa Bay Buccaneers Punter, Michael Koenen and Tennessee Titans Quarterback, Jake Locker! They'll be talking with us about faith and life in the NFL. You won't want to miss it.

And the guys are going to bring some awesome, autographed NFL swag from the Bucs, Titans and Seahawks, for a silent auction!

Nazareth—yes, that’s his real name—was born the youngest of three brothers in the Holy Land. He lived for a short time in Kuwait until his parents decided they wanted him to find a life with more opportunities. In 1984 they arranged for him to attend college in Toledo, OH to study engineering. A few years after graduation, Nazareth showed up at a comedy club in California. It was an “open mic” night and at midnight he took the stage before a crowd of nine drunks,

“They laughed so hard that one of them fell off his chair laughing,” Nazareth recollects, “I got hooked.”

The next day he hit the Comedy Store’s “open mic” night. Within a few months, Nazareth was performing regularly at Hollywood’s top comedy clubs. He won the Laugh Stop’s Comedy Competition and became one of the new faces at The Improv—The #1 Comedy Club in the U.S.

His own industry recognizes him as a leader. He has served as the President of the Christian Comedy Association—a group of more than 300 noteworthy comedians.

He and his wife of 17 years, Maha have three beautiful children and reside in Southern California. His book, You’re So Funny Daddy! Is a testimony to the fact that his most inspired and fulfilling role is as a husband and dad.

If anything, the Dove Award-winning group’s most recent work on its 10th English language studio album, Collage has only reenergized them.

“Quite honestly, there’s a part of me that feels like we have a second wind,” James shares. “I’m not saying we’re going to go for another 20 years, but you kind of have that feeling because we’re even more passionate today about the music, but even more so about the message.”

The Katinas

In today’s ever-changing music industry where bands arrive and then disappear into obscurity at a veritable breakneck pace, The Katinas have not only managed to roll with the changes, but they’ve done so with their original lineup intact for 21 years now.

Undaunted by trends and the changing tides of the online music revolution, The Katinas, comprised of brothers John (vocals), Jesse (vocals), Sam (keyboards), James (bass) and Joe (drums) have continued to write and perform on their own terms—and love every minute of it.

“I say this with the utmost humility, I know that it’s been nothing short of God’s grace that we’re actually still together and doing this full time. It’s actually pretty mind-boggling,” James says. “We’ve seen so many things come and go in 21 years, and yet, some days, it all feels like it was just yesterday.”

We are so excited and blessed to have musical power-house, The Katinas, leading us in worship and praise. We'll also be hearing from the engaging and hilarious Nazareth and Michael Jr, among other speakers! It's going to be an amazing event. We can't wait to see you there!

About Nazareth:

Michael Jr.

Once in a generation, a comedian comes along who speaks to everyone. Today, that comedian is known simply as Michael Jr.

Imagine a line from Bill Cosby to Jerry Seinfeld and you’ll have an idea of Michael’s influences. Watch him onstage and you’ll see a man at ease…with himself, his audience, and his message. Listen to his voice and you’ll detect a comfortable, conversational style that hides a sly sense of mischief. Hear his words and you’ll laugh at the universal themes that connect us all.

Hailed as one of today’s most gifted comedians, Michael’s entry into comedy was almost preordained. Years ago in a crowded Grand Rapids, Michigan movie theater, the projector malfunctioned. The film snapped, the house lights came on, and acting on a dare, young Michael jumped in front of the restless crowd and took center stage. When the theater manager tried to usher him out, the audience demanded he stay…and Michael Jr. discovered his gift.
